Class III

Class III Microbiological safety cabinet

What is a class III Microbiological safety cabinet

This cabinet is a so-called glove box. This cabinet provides protection to the user, product and environment. The difference to a class II cabinet is that a class III is a closed system with a under pressure. The user is not in direct contact with the product inside. It is handled with gloves that are attached to the cabinet, hence the nickname ‘glove box’.

The BW3 microbiological safety cabinet provides a safe working chamber for the operator and environment alike when handling hazardous materials and performing biological research. The cabinet’s construction is sealed and airtight. Work is performed mechanically with gloves. The air inside the cabinet is filtered, and the exhaust system prevents particles from escaping.

Kojair has the following class III microbiological safety cabinet in their product range the BW3. For more information about our class III microbiological safety cabinet the BW3, click here.

Microbiological safety cabinets are divided into three different classes:

“Microbiological safety cabinets certified according to European Standard EN 12469″

The classification refers to the level of protection offered by the microbiological safety cabinet. The class II microbiological safety cabinet is the most common type.

Class I

In a class I cabinet protection applies only to the user, not to the product.
The working principles of a class I microbiological safety cabinet are as follows: air is sucked from the room to the cabinet and it’s table top. The air sweeps the products and protects the user from possible harmful particles of the products.

Class II

These cabinets provide protection to the user, product and environment.
The working principles of a class II microbiological safety cabinet are as follows: the air is blown as an even, unidirectional flow through HEPA filters to the table top, used as a working area. The unidirectional air flow is often called laminar air flow. The air enters the cabinet through the front window opening. Most of the intake air is being recirculated, and approximately 30 % of it is blown either into the room or into the exhaust channel of the building.
